BeleniX

From OSGuru

Summary

BeleniX is a LiveCD distribution based on OpenSolaris that runs on x86 machines.

BeleniX is an operating system distribution that is built using the OpenSolaris source base. It is currently a live CD but is intended to grow into a complete distribution that can be installed to hard disk. BeleniX was born out of the efforts of some intrepid hackers at the India Engineering Centre of Sun Microsystems in Bangalore, India. However this is a non-SUN community distro that has grown out of the spare-time efforts of various folks both inside and outside of SUN and is one significant growing FOSS effort out of India.

The name is a reference to the celtic god Belenus, hence the sun-like logo.

BeleniX aims to be an easy to use distro that gently exposes the power of OpenSolaris. The current LiveCD format makes OpenSolaris more approachable to folks. It boots within 2 minutes from a CDROM. It also has a toolkit which allows the installation of BeleniX onto a usb memory stick.

It also aims to encourage innovation by bringing in new features and usability enhancements and driving more and more community participation.
